Soulmate

Could my Partner be my Soulmate?

Imagine a connection with someone in which you feel really comfortable, confident about yourself and feel a deep sense of completion – a soulmate connection.

Is this possible?

Of course it is possible!

You are a unique individual and perfect as you are, right now.

There will be many people that you connect with that resonate with you and would reflect back to you the comfort and confidence that you project out into the universe.

Are they all soul mates though?

What is a Soulmate?

A quick Google search brings up the following three predominant themes in relation to soulmates;

  1. The first theme revolves around ideas that a soulmate is someone that just “gets you”. Someone who understands you and creates space for you to feel comfortable and complete.
  2. The second theme is a little more pragmatic and encompasses relationship ideas around a soulmate being a person in your life who nurtures you and encourages you to grow.
  3. The third idea of a soulmate is a “god” ordained Hollywood style romance in which you feel constant love and caring and vulnerability…. and is totally impractical in every day life!

All three of these are very relevant to our understanding of the concept.

Soulmates and Relationships

A soulmate is not always connected to love and romance. This is the idea that a lot of people have, and it is even implied in the name, that there as a spiritual half of you out there who you need to connect with!

Often in my readings and counselling sessions I encounter the belief that a persons interested party is presumed to be the soul-mate and that because of this they are obliged to receive love from that person.

This is totally wrong and even dangerous because it leads to all kinds of manipulations, obligations and unnecessary insecurities between the involved parties.

If we remove the presumption of romance, then a soul mate could easily be your ultimate challenger or adversary, the person in your life who challenges you to step up the most – good or bad!

In this conceptualisation, there could be any different soulmates in our lives concurrently and at different times.

Love and Romance

Love and romance are strange things. They are based on emotions which themselves are a result of hormonal changes and concentrations in the body. In essence love is how you feel about yourself when others are around, the feeling of love is triggered in us by others, but is not always reciprocal.

This practical idea of love actually ticks all three of the above soulmate characteristics!

We feel love when a partner understands us, when someone motivates and encourages us, believes in us and when someone cares for us.

enchanted soulmate

Metaphysically, Soulmates are;

  1. Your Best Friends – People who you feel comfortable with, who understand you as a whole or in parts, people who have your back in a crisis.
  2. Your Work Colleagues – Those select few who you navigate through work stress with, who help you and who you help in times of crisis
  3. Your Family – Love then or hate them, family is where most of us are the most vulnerable. As such family can have a huge impact on our lives and would be a soul connection.
  4. Your Random Connections – That person who smiled at you on the train, or who held the door open for you in the rain, the barista who made you a heart swirl in your cappuccino, or the chef who lovingly prepared your meal. Those random acts that enhanced your life in some way actually changed how you resonate with yourself and changed your life!

Concluding Advice

When asked about soul mates in my session, I always advise clients to love and be loved freely and sincerely to the best of their ability and to allow themselves to grow within that experience. The semantics of soul mate or soul connection are not actually important, how you love yourself and another is far more important than trying to define it or label it!
